Taupō Pita Pit keeps school running

Lake Taupō Christian School students are enjoying nutritious meals and enhanced playtime, thanks to a partnership with Pita Pit Taupō under the Ministry of Education’s Ka Ora, Ka Ako Healthy School Lunches Programme. This initiative, aimed at providing fair access to healthy lunches, sees Pita Pit staff preparing warm, nutritious meals for 136 students daily, contributing to over 11,500 lunches this year. The programme, which includes a variety of student-favoured meals like meatballs, pasta, and butter chicken, adheres to strict nutritional guidelines, incorporating wholewheat, low-sugar options, and even vegetables in unexpected dishes like brownies. Beyond nourishment, Pita Pit also supports the school by donating sports equipment through the Tania Dalton Foundation, enhancing the students’ physical activity and play. This comprehensive support system not only fuels the students’ bodies and minds but also fosters a positive, stigma-free environment around receiving free school lunches.
